6/24 : Veil, Drape, and Stitch at Zolla Lieberman
I’m excited to be back showing at Zolla/Lieberman Gallery this summer in Veil, Drape, and Stitch, a group exhibition curated by Ruth L. Poor. “The persisting relationship between textiles and our everyday lives is almost innumerable. From the worldly embrace of our clothing to the veiling of holy objects, uses range from the sacred to the profane. The work in this show represents physical, conceptual, and illusionary representations of fibers. Some artists have chosen the proliferation of patterns and repetition in cloth. Others have rummaged through perceived scraps and incorporated them through the treasure of quilt-making. Painted presentations range from dramatic draping like the grand weight of theater curtains to sheer, voluminous shrouds. Embroidery artists use stitching to tell time, embellish, or emphasize the piercing of woven structures. Our expansive range of use and relationship to cloth can be used to comfort, bind, and exalt (et al.) in the same ways the artists chosen for this exhibition have represented the life of textiles.”

Spread across three floors of the Merchandise Mart, the featured works convey the diversity of materials, techniques, and themes explored by Chicago's textile artists.
8/22 : From the Center at The Plan
The PLAN is proud to present From the Center, a group exhibition featuring painting, drawing, and sculpture works that focus on addressing the center of the object, picture plane, surface, and image. By bringing together works that address the center, this show seeks to identify a wide range of possibilities in and around this basic compositional and formal element. This exhibition poses questions around what kind of momentum can a room of paintings and sculptures addressing the center create? What does it mean for multiple centers to exist simultaneously? What is the potential for the center to function as a hole, a vanishing point, a target, a void, a UFO, an exit, an entry, a position, a force, etc.? Can the center create both distance and intimacy simultaneously? Is the center something shared? How can the center be renegotiated formally, spatially, contextually, optically, materially, socially? The Plan is located at 600 N. Albany in Chicago. From the Center was curated by Noelle Africh and opens on August 5th at 6:00.

You’re invited to Abstract Acres, a day-long art event at Fluffubutt Farm in Fennville, MI. There will be drinks from Our Brewing Company and food from Acre Knot Farm farm as well as other local vendors. Abstract Acres is a special event organized by Abstract Lunch, a collective of artists and friends (Théo Bignon, Rachel Hefferan, and Molly Blumberg) that started in Chicago at SAIC in 2019. Back then they organized fast paced pop-up exhibitions during the lunch hour in a critique space, hoping to facilitate dialogue between fellow grads from every department and invite play and spontaneity. Almost three years later, tired of the gatekeeping of art opportunities and rejection emails stacking up, and eager to see each other and show work in the same place, they decided to revive Abstract Lunch for this special event. Fluffybutt Farm is located at 5355 123rd Ave. Fennville, MI 49408.
